FTP SentryPrevious | Next
Contents

PageSentry uses a URL to locate a file on an FTP server, verify that it exists, and check its data. When this Sentry runs, it downloads the file, computes a checksum, and records the length of the file for later comparison. Figure 9 shows the FTP Edit Sentry dialog box.

Figure 9: Configuring a new HTTP Sentry.

To configure the Sentry, fill in the appropriate fields. In addition to the common configuration options, the FTP Sentry has the following options:

Retrieve File
This is the URL of the file that will be retrieved via ftp. This must be a complete URL, such as "ftp://ftp.yourcom.com/file.hqx". You can specify a non-standard port by appending a colon and the port number to the machine name: "ftp://ftp.yourcom.com:8002/file.hqx". The default port number is 21.

Username and Password
PageSentry uses the username and password to log into the ftp server. You must complete these fields. For anonymous login, set the username to "anonymous" and the password to your email address.

Checksum and Length
You cannot edit these fields, but they act much like the Verify Phrase of the HTTP Sentry. The first time PageSentry requests the file, it will store these values. On each subsequent request, PageSentry will compare these values to see if the file has changed or has been corrupted. You can force PageSentry to store these values immediately by clicking "Execute Test". If the length is different or the checksum does not match the previous value, the test will fail when the Sentry executes.
